Shooting Sports Update:

This was posted by Vonnie on the Cherokee 4-H Blog. I am pasting it here in case anyone is interested. ;-)

We have generated some definite interest in shooting sports. A few parents have volunteered to attend the shooting sports workshop in February. We are still in need of a parent or adult leader to volunteer to go and take part in the training for archery. If you are interested in any of the shooting sports, please contact Willie ASAP!!! Deadline to send in registration is February 13th, so Willie needs to know who is going very, very soon!! Your workshop registration fee will be paid for by the PALS council. Any other questions, contact Willie at the CEO.

Council Meeting for 1-27-09 canceled

Party/Bake Sale Reminder

We will have our party at the Brown's home during our regular meeting. I'll e-mail you to figure out what we can all bring. :-) We will also deliver the baskets for the elderly to H.O.P.E. at that time.

Don't forget about the bake sale at Austin Bank on Friday. The time is 8:30 am - 2:00 pm. :-)

The winning photos are going to be posted right here this Friday. Thank you to all the parents who allowed your kids to participate and a special thanks to all of you kids who submitted photos. This year the judging will be difficult as we have over 40 photos to judge and the quality overall is excellent!!!! Check back Friday afternoon to get the results. All photos will be on public displayed in the Jacksonville public library next week. The photos will be posted on this blog as well. Good Luck to all who submitted photos!!!!!"

Bake Sale Reminder

Next Friday, November 7th, is our bake sale at Austin Bank. :-) We will meet there about 8:30 am, and stay until 2:00 pm. Hopefully, we sell out before then though. :-)

Please, help "spread the word". :-) Just come and help as long as you can. I will be there until 2:00 pm, but if you can only work an hour, or two, then that is fine. :-)

Also, don't forget to make some "Thank You" cards to hand out at the VFW on the 11th. :-)

Basket Project

Just an update about the community service project. :-)

David spoke with the Texas Basket Factory, and they have graciously donated 18 "peck" baskets.

We tried to reach our contact person at DHR from last year, but she is no longer there, so we were directed to H.O.P.E. I have spoken with them and they are very excited to work with us to get our baskets to the elderly. :-)

For anyone who can help, we will meet at Wal Mart on November 22nd, from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, to collect donations for the baskets. We will then take them to H.O.P.E. on December 12th, and they will distribute them to their preselected clients on December 16th.

This will help to give some of the needy elderly in our community a great Holiday Season. :-) Thank you all for your help.

Take a moment to mark the following dates on your calendar, November 13th and December 2nd. On November 13th, there will be two meetings in the County Extension Office Conference Room....Concession Stand Committee meeting at 6:30pm followed by a Fundraiser Committee meeting at 7:30pm. If you are on either of these committees please make plans to attend.

On December 2nd, there will be a Food Show project meeting at the County Extension Office Conference Room. If you have any interest in participating in the County Food Show, you will not want to miss this informative meeting. Rules and guidelines will be discussed. Looking forward to seeing you in the near future!!

I just received this from Willie, and I wanted to pass it on.

I have received a few calls about conflicting dates on the calendar.

I apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused any of you.

1. The Hay Sale will take place at the Show Barn in J-ville on Thursday, October 23.

2. The County Consumer Decision Making Contest Registration Date will be December 12, 2008.

3. The County Consumer Decision Making Contest will take place on Tuesday, January 6, 2009. ~Location is Pending!!!

You will all be able to download the most updated version of the Calendar when the State 4-H Office puts our document server back online.
